If an individual could be seen as a part of a larger organism. Is perhaps suicide possibly a function of a malfunctioning cell in an organism? Is the suicidal person doing society benefit by removing him/herself?
In Japan where the suicide rate is much higher, the murder rate is much lower. Depression is apparently anger turned inwards. I would rather angry people take their own lives than the lives of innocent people!
Handguns and shotguns are also virtually impossible to own in Japan - making the sort of instantaneous anger necessary for most murders rare. Suicide's - especially amongst the young - appear to be the result of a very competetive, unforgiving society.
I wonder if the high suicide rate may also be tied to a peculiar masochism that seems oddly prevalent in Japan. You can see this not just in those game shows where people are so keen to be ill-treated, but even in the sporting arena, where Japan is now considered the current world base for endurance ning!
to say that a suicide might be helping socity by indulging is like saying that a baby dying at brith is helping socity. Humans are a million kinds of confussions. we can not judge a persons worth. the lowlest bum may become the richest man, the layer on tenth aveanue may lose all his money, but help make socity better by working as a mayor in a bum town. a melonchloic teen may create a peice of art that opens our mind.
The urge to comit sucide come from many places. bullying, abuse, rejection. these are all culprits. dont get me wrong, i hate sucide, i use to want to kill myself. but i lived on (granted, mostly out of spit, but i digress) the point is that suicide is an easy and cowardly way out. it hurts more people that you care about.
sorry for the bad spelling, id fix, but i dont want to. its 4:44 am so if you dont like it you can suck a bug.

Nah. I disagree. Didn't you see "Bowling for Columbine"? Canada has more guns than the US and a very low murder rate.
I have never been a Michael
I have never been a Michael Moore person (it's hard to see obese people as role models!) but I guess he may have a point.........

Don't mean to sound cold
I don't mean to sound cold, but objectively speaking, death does benefit humanity in many ways.
